I love anything bite-sized... especially if it's balls! These energy balls taste just like brownies and are unbelievably healthy. The few simple ingredients pack a lot of health benefits:
- Dates: high in fibre, which promotes regular bowel movements. Dates are also high in various antioxidants that protect your cells from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that may cause harmful reactions in your body and lead to disease.
- Walnuts*: rich in antioxidant activity and omega 3's. This comes from vitamin E, melatonin and plant compounds called polyphenols. Polyphenols in walnuts can help fight oxidative stress and inflammation.
- Cocoa Powder: rich in theobromine, which helps to reduce inflammation and can contribute to protecting you from disease. Cocoa Powder also contains iron, zinc, and selenium. These minerals help your body function and give your immune system a boost.
- Salt: From this recipe I used Redmond Real Salt which is unrefined salt. Real Salt contains several essential mineral electrolytes, that improve hydration and also assist in muscle contraction and nerve impulses due to the electric energy they create in the body. Any type of sea salt or pink himalayan salt are also great options!
*If you are allergic to nuts, you can substitute the walnuts for oats or another ingredient of your choosing.
